Opening Audio Attachments Opens iTunes

When I open an audio attachment (mp3) it automatically opens and plays in iTunes disrupting what I am currently listening to. It seem to remember that prior to iTunes that my audio attachments were previewed in the preview pane and that I could play them within that.

Do I remember correctly? Can I get back to that?

Hi Sammy,

when you double-click an attachment, it automatically opens in the default
application for this particular type of file. If iTunes is set to play MP3
files, then it will open that file whenever you double-click it in
Entourage's attachment pane.

You should normally see a mini-player in Entourage's preview pane as well as
message window that allows you to play most common media types supported by
QuickTime from inside Entourage. Is that not the case for you?

Thank you for responding Michel. I do not see that mini-player in the preview window. I used to but it has long since vanished. I have Quicktime Pro 7.5.5. Can you help me get it back?

Can you help me get it back?

Create a new Identity and see if you see the mini player there? You'll need
an example email. Some settings are stored in the database and others in the
~/Library. Let me know what you find.

You can test your Identity by dragging your Identity folder to Shared,
creating a new User Account in System Preferences, log out/in to the new
User. Open Entourage and let it create a new Microsoft User Data folder.
Drag (it actually copies) your Identity from Shared to the MUD folder. If
the problem goes away in the new User then it's in the User's Preferences
folder. If it still exists it's in the database.

Thanks Diane. I created an new user and tested it from scratch. No media player. I then created a new user and used my existing Main Identity to start Entourage from. Still no media player.

Help?

Sorry, but I'm out of ideas. Maybe someone else will have a clue. Can you
send me a test message with an audio attachment and I'll see what happens
when I receive. Send me an email: (select the one for newsgroup support)
