Opening/deleting mail

Using Outlook 2000 or 2003 - I open emails and move through them using [Ctrl]
[>]. If I delete an open email, I return to the Inbox, and then need to open
another email before carrying on.

Is there a way that I can delete an open email and have the next email in my
Inbox display as open.

Tools>Options, Pref. tab. Email Options btn. Msg. handling section. Click
down arrow and select Open next item.
