Hi Effy ([email protected]),
in the newsgroups
you posted:

|| Any suggestions? Would upgrading to 2003 help or would I have the
|| same problem?

That means the CD has Publisher 2002 or 2003 files on it, not Publisher
2000. Or, it means you are running Norton AV.

I have Office 2000 with Publisher version 9.00.0327 and service pack 3 and
all updates installed. I cannot open the publisher documents as listed.
I've changed Norton as suggested and I right clicked on the file and it is
not read only. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Are you *sure* that the Pub files that you are trying to open were created
with Pub 2000 or earlier version?

Hope it is not too late to get in on this disscussion. I tried to open a
*.pub file and got the same error that everyone else had mentioned. When you
right click on the file and check the properties is shows Publisher 2000
verison 6. My Publisher shows 2000 SP-2. Is one a stand alone and one
shipped with office or what is the difference.

Thanks,

This problem arises most times with Norton antivirus software installed. Disable
"script blocking," if that doesn't do it, disable "Office tools" in Norton options
too.

The file I was trying to open was created in Publisher2003 and I am using

Publisher can read backwards. I have Pub 2003 and I can read darned near
anything, save a corrupt file.

If you are having trouble, make sure you have reloaded all applicable
patches and then take it from there.

Sometimes Norton will interfere with opening earlier publications. If you have
Norton, disable "script blocking" and in Norton options, misc.,disable "Office
Plug-ins" as well.

Similar problem, but FAQ and newsgroup advice hasn't worked, yet.
I have 4 files saved from Pub98 on a WinME machine that will not open in
Pub2000 w/Win98SE or Win2K.

My system: Win98SE (w/updates), Office 2000 Premium SP-3, recently
installed Publisher 2000 from Office CDs.
I run Norton Anti-virus Corporate v 8.0; can't find script blocking or
Office Plug-in locations, so I disabled Norton completely (using msconfig and
reboot), but still have the same problem.

What else can I try? Is there any other format the originator can save into
(from Pub98) that I might be able to use?

Thanks,
PenCTM

P

PenCTM

I discovered the files were really Pub200 files saved down to Pub98. The
originator re-saved as Pub200o and all is well.

However, the suggestions still didn't work. Strange program ...

Thanks for your help.
