Opening DOC files in Word 2007

I've got a genuine copy of Office Professional 2007 and installed it to both
my laptop and home desktop, both registered under my name, however, I
couldn't open any of the documents that was saved in the 1997-2003 office
versions (it opened up in the notepad and the contents were corrupted) in the
desktop but I could open the same documents on my laptop. I have tried
uninstalling the office and reinstalled it in my destop, but nothing changed.
Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it?

If I understand what you have written (which is badly phrased), the
documents on your desktop are fine, but the documents on your laptop are
corrupt (even if you open them in Notepad).

How are you moving them from your desktop to your laptop because it seems
that they are being destroyed during transfer process?

The files were all saved in the older versions of microsoft office in an
external hard drive. I can open all of them without much problems on my
laptop, but it's corrupted when i try to open them the same way (just double
clicking the file) on my desktop, they are both supposed to be the same
software - microsoft office 2007. When I open the documents with the older
versions of microsoft, they are fine as well.

Thanks for your time!

Instead of double-clicking on the document from Windows Explorer, try
opening Word and use File, Open on the document. Does that open it
correctly?

It does open, but the formatting is all wrong.
