opening document freezes PC

I have a four-page document with a table and many URLs. Whenever I open it,
it freezes my PC for two minutes and the document itself stays frozen for
five minutes.

Just that one document or all documents?

I'm guessing it is just that one document: it must be partially corrupt. Try
using the Open & Repair option to see if it sorts the problem. If that
fails, open it and then SaveAs and choose HTML format. Close it, reopen it
and SaveAs back as .doc format.
