Opening documents in Office 2003

Has anyone come across this problem. When I double click
on either a word, excel, ppt file, the document does not
open, it opens the application but no document. If I open
word 2003, then choose file -> open and find the document,
it opens.

When I open the application, it goes through the installer
every time, I don't know if these problems are connected.

I also have this problem: any time I open Word, Excel,
etc., the installer comes on for a few moments, followed
by a window claiming to be configuring the app.

This happens when closing the app as well.

Was it the plan that we open Word, Excel, etc., just once
when we bought the product, and never close them down?

Can anyone help with this problem? (And please, don't
anyone try to tell us how it's actually a beneficial
feature . . .)

Solution
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
On the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the General tab.
Click to clear the Ignore other applications check box,
and then click OK.
