opening Excel 2002 documents in Excel 2007

Everytime I try to open an excel 2002 document from my old pc (that I have
loaded on a cd) to my new laptop with excel 2007, it crashes my laptop. I
don't think it is the cd, because I can open my old version word documents
from it to my new pc and new version of word. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
for any help...
