Opening excel causes multitude of word and access documents to at.

I have installed Office 2003 on a Win 2000 computer, as admin.
all other programs work fine, except when opening excel other documents
attempt to open and therefore cause an error wrong format. I did not ask to
open these apx 12 documents both word and access. It happens every time I try
to open excell whether from a shortcut icon on desktop or through Windows
explorer trying to open a current excel document. Any suggestions?

Check the General Tab in Tools->Options.

If there is a path in the box labeled "Alternate Startup File Location"
then delete it.
