Opening Excel Files Created in Office 2007 with Excel 2008

I use Excel 2007 at work. I have a large number of spreadsheets with ranges formatted as tables (Excel 2007's version of Lists but with banded rows or columns). When I open these in Excel 2008, my only choices are to open as read-only or not at all. Is there a way to open these files without having to resave them?

If there is I haven't found it :-( There are a number of 2007 aspects which
are not fully implemented in 2008 - if at all. The Tables feature is one of
them because there is much more to it that just the appearance. It also
incorporates new Sorting & Filtering features not supported in 2008.

Thank you, Bob. Yeah, the sorting and filtering in Excel 2007 is a nice feature, too. Unfortunately, after using Excel 2007 for over a year now, Excel 2008 is a real step backward; a real disappointment. Thanks, again.

Your impression is one that's quite widely shared :) Without going into a
lot of detail MacBU just didn't have the time to do a much better job than
they did with 2008. They basically have to follow the lead of the PC side &
still maintain a schedule of their own. The hope [and expectation] is that
the next release of Mac Office will be much more richly developed.
