opening excel files from xp

Hi,

received today an excel file made on xp and excel
can't open the file in MS excel for OSX: got message "object library not
registered"

doing the same in open office and there I have no problems opening the
file

anyone that nows the trick to solve the issue in the MS excel program?
is openoffice becoming better then the original MS excel????
