Opening Excel in IE - Can We?

K

Kenji

I now understand that users cannot open Excel sheets within Internet
Explorer.

Can we somehow tell Excel application to launch when the user downloads an
Excel sheet?

Hi Kenji,

Users can look at Excel worksheets that were saved as HTML, but they can not
actually use the workbook itself.

How someone's web browser handles a file download depends upon the settings
in the browser. In Internet Explorer you can set it individually for each
file type. You can have IE "Post-Process with Application" which will cause
Excel to launch when one of its file types is received.

Thanks, I got it to work by changing the settings on IE.

Each of my customers will not do this. Is there a way to automate this
configuration on IE through a program or something on the web?

Hi Kenji,

I hope not! If a script could access the preferences then I would call it a
virus.

You can make really great instructional videos with SnapZPro from Ambrosia.
Educating your clients seems to be the solution to this dilemma.
