Opening Excel workbook on PC from Mac

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Hi,

I am experiencing challenges to open a workbook with a PC at work using office 2000 when I saved the file at home on my Mac using Excel 2008 (Leopard OS X 10.5.8).

I worked on my workbook at home, on my Mac without a problem opening the file saved from my PC at work. I am a new user of Mac Office Home edition and find it very easy to work with. I saved the format 97-2004 (.xls) and opening the next day at work, but I get very frustrated when I found the repaired file from office PC. Formulas and data are there but no graphs or cell formats. I basically have a white book with simple figures entered in the cells.

After reading the forum I discovered that it is common to find problems when opening files form PC to Mac and vice versa.

If someone has a solution to my problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

If you worked in the newer version using the features unique to it ‹
especially graphics tools ‹ then saved in the older format it stands to
reason that there would be something lost in the translation. There is a
notification to that effect which appears when you attempt to do so. I'm not
certain, but I believe the OXML converters are needed for Office 2003 &
prior to be able to interpret certain content created by 2007/2008 even if
the file is saved in the old binary format. That loss may be magnified if
your Office 2000 installation has not been enhanced by the converters MS has
provided. Excel 2000 can't render what it can't understand. If you did in
fact use the Office feature to "repair" the file that process strips out
graphics & formatting, retaining only cell content.

Hi,

Click on the Compatibility tab of the Toolbox and adjust the setting to
Office 2000 and then run the compatibility checker. It will list the
things that need to be altered in order to be displayed in the old software.
