opening file creates high CPU load and application hangs

Hi there,

I've had to force quit the excel program a few times now. every time I start excel it attempts to load all the files that failed to load then the CPU goes high and the application hangs. there appears to be no simple way out of this loop. please help.

Start XL with the Shift key down. Quit XL. Should start normally after
that. This will get rid of the autorecover files that XL tries to load
on startup.

Also, make sure the problem files aren't in your Startup folder, which
by default is

HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 200x:Office:Startup:Excel

though it could be a folder you designated in Preferences/General.
