Opening file from shortcut or link

When I click Start->Document->{filename}.doc, on a desktop shortcut or
attachment in an email, Word 2000 opens but the file does not load. The
following error message appears, despite the fact that I can show, using
Windows Explorer, that the file is in the location indicated.

"Windows cannot find '{filepath/filename}.doc'. Make sure you typed the name
correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button,
and then click Search."

Once Word is running I can click the link again and the document opens.

Can anyone suggest how I might eliminate this problem?

You'd do better to ask in a WinWord group - this is the group for the Mac
version, but one thing I'd suggest is that you Save the file locally before
trying to open the attachment.

Sorry! This is the first time I've used this set-up. I had no idea i was in a
Mac group - it's all quite bewildering.
