Opening Files Freezes Computer

Whenever I try to open any kind of office file now out of
any explorer window, the computer freezes and it takes
forever to open, but if i open the program first, then
open the file from there, it's fine. I have a fast system
that shouldn't be having this problem (way over
requirements) and it only just started happening. The
computer is defragmented, checked for viruses, cleaned
up, and all the other maintencestuff every week, so i
can't figure out what might be causing the problem.

Do you have any mapped network drives?

Can you please explain, what to do when there are mapped network drives, other than disconecting them.

No, I don't. But I also forgot to mention, the same thing
also happens when i click on an URL in Outlook, IE takes
forever to load.
