Opening files in different window

Hi,

I recently upgraded to Vista Ultimate. When i installed Visio 2003 again, it
all works fine, but when i go to open multiple visio files it opens them in
the same window, nad not in their separate windows in the task bar.

It doesn't group them like that grouping feature windows has, but it pretty
much minimises one of the files behind the other. The only way for me to
change between files is by going to the "Window" menu in Visio, and then
selecting the other file.

Can someone help me open files in different windows please.

Cheers

What you are seeing now is the correct manner of showing Visio
windows. There will be a registry setting that determines whether
Visio runs as a single instance, but it;s probably in the registry
class information and I don't want to start touching that.
However, you can the same behaviour by holding the Shift key when
starting Visio. But any settings made and saved by one instance of
Visio may be overwritten by the other one.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the hint. I went into regedit and found the registry for
"SingleInstanceFileOpen" This was set to a value of 1, assuming it means it
was set to open in one instance. I change the value to 0, and it now opens
files in their own instances.

This shouldn't have any problems should it? I've been using it for a few
hours and had no problems with it.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the hint. I went into regedit and found the registry for
"SingleInstanceFileOpen"

I can't find any entry like that, not even "SingleInstance" within a
string. What is the whole registry key you found?

Sorry I meant to copy the key but forgot, In any case here it is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Visio\Application ... in
there there was the one named "SingleInstanceFileOpen".

So it does.

As I said though, if you have two open instances, when closing them
any settings saved by the first one will be overwritten by the
seconds, most recently used files, any other settings etc.
