Opening Files in Excel 2007

Actually,I do not have a problem opening files from within Excel 2007,
but, if I double click a file icon to open it from the desktop or my home
directory, Excel launches, with a blank work area - I have the Ribbon, Office
button, and QAT displayed, but the worksheet area is utterly blank, not even
a Book1, and I still need to open the file from Excel in what may be
considered the conventional manner.

This is not an issue with Word, Access, or PowerPoint.
Is this a setting that needs to be adjusted?

Thank you for any guidance.

The following sometimes can fix this problem:

Office button - Excel Options - Advanced tab - General section, enable the
option "Ignore other applications....".
Close Excel and try again.

If that doesn't work, I would try to re-register Excel. With Excel closed:

Click Start [then click Run--if using XP], type:

excel.exe /unregserver

then type:

excel.exe /regserver

Make sure there is a space between exe and /

Now try double-clicking a file to see if it's fixed.

If this doesn't work, then I would try to repair Excel (this can be done
from Programs and Features or Programs and Settings, depending on which
version of Windows you're usin).
