I would appreciate help with the following glitch.
I have a most unusual problem with the "open" command in Microsoft Word.
When I open Word files by double-clicking a file in Windows Explorer, the
file opens without problem ... HOWEVER, when I attempt to open any other
file from within Word (File/Open or the "open file" icon), the application
freezes up and I need to terminate Word. However, everything works fine if
I open files (to begin with) using MS Word. In other words, it is the MEANS
that I employ to open a Word file that determines whether or not Word will
freeze up. In summary: Using Windows Explorer to open a file causes
problems opening any other files, but using (only) the File/Open command or
the "open file" icon in Word doesn't.
The easy work-around is opening all files via Word, and not Windows
Explorer. However, is there a real remedy to this glitch?
I use Microsoft Word 2000. My PC is a Hewlett-Packard 735n, with
Microsoft's XP Home Edition operating system.
Thanks in advance for any help.
