Opening Microsoft Word 08 .docx in Microsoft Word for Mac 97-04.

Here's the thing. I am a doctoral student. My professors have loaded
assignments onto an online service. The problem is that most of them
are a .docx, which I couldn't open and Word asked if I wanted the
converter. So downloaded the converter. Here's where it all goes down
the toilet! Now, Word won't open at all! Help!
Do I actually have to buy the new version?

No, if you are using Microsoft Office for Mac 2004, you do not need to buy a
new copy.

But we need accurate versions of your software, because we don't have enough
information to answer. Notice how the other posters give the version of
their OS, and Word, in three digits? And their CPU type? Without that, we
can't answer.
