Opening Outlook 2000

Hi there

I am having problems when Outlook 2000 starts. I am using XP Home.

When i double click on the icon, it takes between 5 - 10 mins for it to open
fully and be functional.

Once Outlook has opened and received e-mails, it works normally with no
delays.

This only problem is how long it takes to start.

Also, if I upgraded to say Outlook 2007, would I be able to import the
e-mails from the version I have now?

How large is your .pst file? If it's getting near 2GB, you'd better
delete some messages. If you get Outlook 07, first back up your .pst
file and then uninstall Outlook 2000. Reboot. Install 07 and when you
open Outlook 07, use File/Open/Personal Data File and browse to where
you saved the 2000 .pst file. It will open below the default folders in
the folder tree. COPY your messages to the new folders, creating any
user created folders and then right click on the top of the old .pst
folder tree and close it.

The new 07 .pst file can grow to 20 GB.

Yes, you would be able to access the mail - we don't recommend using import
but you should convert to the new pst format and import is one method.

It's hard to say if it will help a lot (Outlook 2007 is faster though) -
outlook shouldn't take that long to open, unless its repairing your pst
files. Does Outlook 2000 have Detect and Repair on the Help menu? If so,
try it.

You maybe want to check the size of the data files, and possibly look as to
what ad-ins you have installed for outlook
