OK, much frustration with Microsoft problems today.
1) When I first open Outlook 2002 (10.4712.4219) SP-2,
which is running on XP, it gives me an error: "The
ordinal 36 could not be located in the dynamic link
library MAPI32.dll." This error does not occur on any
Microsoft site for resolution. The closest fix is for an
older version of Outlook and the missing ordinal is #30,
the fix for which error is to rename the file extend.dat
to extend.old, whereby the extend.dat will regenerate
itself upon re-boot. This does not work for the ordinal
36 problem.
2) After I click on the "OK" for 1) above, I get another
immediate error "The add-in 'C:\WINDOWS\System32
\ActExt.dll' could not be installed or loaded. This
problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on the
Help menu. Unable to load 'C:\WINDOWS\System32
\ActExt.dll'. You may be out of memory, out of system
resources, or missing a .dll file."
I have found no fix on a Microsoft site.
3) After being open for two to three minutes, another
error occurs: "A recently installed program may cause
Microsoft Office or other e-mail-enabled programs to
function improperly. Outlook can resolve this conflict
without affecting the program that originally caused the
problem. Do you want Outlook to resolve this problem?"
There is the common Yes and No boxes below the message,
and, naturally, I push Yes.
This results in another immediate dialog box
stating: "Outlook was unable to resolve the conflict
between a recently installed program and Microsoft Office
or other email-enabled-programs. Outllok needs to modify
a system component that another program is currently
using. To fix this problem, please restart Windows."
The re-start accomplishes nothing but the diminution of
time.
4) Lastly, but actually the first problem that caused me
to write this missive: As I attempt to import a .csv file
created on my other Outlook program on my laptop, I click
on "Next" in the Import and Export Wizard after
choosing "Import from another program or file" and
receive an immediate Dr. Watson - Outlook closes down
completely.
5) If the problem becoimes another OEM-type fix, i.e.
delete the program and reinstall from disk, will I be
able to save all the e-mail in the Outlook folders? How
does one do that?
Thansk for your patience - I have certainly lost mine
tonight. Please write me back at my regular email
address, I am not even sure if I could navigate back
through these "community groups" to check the site for
responses. Who really has time for that in any iteration
of the modern world?
