Opening Page or Not ?

Which is it best to have, a small opening page that links to the main page
(and is the first 'thing' a visitor sees with all the info, links etc) or to
have the opening page itself the page a visitor first sees?

I would say no...
I never put one on my websites... Is just a waste of time.

I have never understood why people would want an opening page. Some
use this for Flash intros, ans some for totaly unknown reasons. I
guess it depends allot on the type of site you have and how many times
you want visitors to return. I look at it this way...
I go to a site for a reason, I don't want to see someones fancy
flash or entry page. I want to see the content. Now if I am looking at
a site that I might want to hire the peorson to do flash that might be
an exception. But I won't go through that door more than once or
twice. It is a waist of time.
So I see no reason for an opening page. Give them what they came for
as soon as possible.
From an ecommerce standpoint most shoppers will just move on and not
wait the time going through a entry page to buy something.
