Opening password protected docs

R

Rednelle

Greetings experts,

I am running Word 2000 (part of Office 2000 Premium edition) on Windows
98SE - Pentium II 400 MHz with 192Mb.

For a long time all my password protected documents opened fine, the
pop-up screen for password entry appearing in the centre of the screen, and
after entering both passwords the document itself would open 'on top'.

All documents that are not password protected still open just fine.

Now some of my password protected documents do NOT open as they should.
Probably I have done something wrong. What happens is that the application
(seems to) open in the background. The (background) of the application
caption on the task-bar is flashing alternately blue and grey. When I
double-click on the caption the password entry pop-up window appears in the
bottom right hand corner of the screen. Passwords are accepted and then the
document caption on the task-bar must be clicked to bring the page to the
foreground (ie on top)

What have I done wrong? But, more importantly, what must I do to get
password protected documents to open quickly and on-top - like some still do
and like all used to do?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards, Rednelle
