Hello. I am trying to open a password protected ppt file (Powerpoint 97-2004) in Powerpoint 2008 for Mac. I created the presentation on Powerpoint for Windows, and I know the password. The problem is that Powerpoint for Mac 2008 does not give me the option of entering the password. (Unlike Word for Mac; I've had no problem with password-protected files there.)

The message I receive is "This presentation is protected by a password or Digital Rights Management (DRM). To access the presentation, you must have a version that is not protected by a password or DRM."

How do I get Powerpoint to ask me to enter the password, as Word does?

For what it's worth, I have installed Office version 12.1.2 and my OS is 10.5.4.

Thank you very much.

I'm afraid you can't. The dialog states it fairly clearly: PowerPoint 2008
cannot open files protected by Digital Rights Management, so you'll need to
request a non-password protected copy to open.

I agree that this would be good functionality for PowerPoint for Mac. Be
sure to send a feature request to Microsoft.

Thank you, Mickey. I will do that.
