Opening pdf file opens install office 2003 trial

I have XP home on a Sony VAIO desktop system. For the last few weeks when ever I
open a pdf file the install wizard opens & tries to install a trial version of
office that I don't want to install now. How do I stop the install from
happening? I renamed the folder that the trial program is in but that doesn't
stop it.
