Opening pst file

I exported my outlook files to pst format which is password protected. The
backup was in Windows XP. I have tried to import the files on my new
computer which is Vista. I get a message that I do not permission to open.
The pst file was saved on a Simple Drive external drive. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks

does it work if you copy them to the local hard drive? how about using file,
open, outlook data file? if not, what error message do you get?

Stupid question. Do you have Outlook installed on the new computer ??

I am a believer that no question is stupid. I do have it instaleed it is
Outlook 2002
