Opening Publisher 2007 files from the desktop

I bought MS Publisher 2007 separately from the Office Student 2007 version.
I found that I cannot open any Publisher files that I have saved on the
desktop. I have to open Publisher and access them from there. Is this a
software miscommunication since Publisher was not part of the original suite?
Also when I try to open the Publisher file on the desktop it says it's a
WIN32 problem. When I try to save a word file then convert to Publisher it
identifies Publisher as a "windows component. HELP

What does the file association tell you when you right-click a Publisher file
and click properties? Does it say it Opens With...Publisher?

When you are in the Publisher program, create a text box, right-click, click
change text, click text file, browse to your Word document.

When I right click a publisher file from the desktop it says "Opens with
Microsoft Office Windows component" When I attempt to change to publisher
file from the list Publisher is not in that list. Also it does show it as a
publisher file with the publisher extension. Could I have possibly saved
this program in the wrong location. To reiterate again when I do attempt to
open a publisher file that is saved on the desktop, it give me the message
C:..............pub is not a valid WIN32 application. Not sure what you mean
in the second paragraph. Seems too complicated when all I want is to open
files from the desktop but appreaciate your suggestions very much. I do
still need help. Nothing seems to work. THANKS

Have you tried a detect and repair? What OS do you have? There have been some
problems with the service pack for Vista.
You might do well trying to reinstalling Publisher.
Have you done a virus scan?

The second paragraph in the other post was reference to your problems with
importing a Word document.

Thanks Mary, I will try what you suggested. I have Windows Vista Home
Premium. I installed MS Office Home and Student 2007 when I got my laptop
last year. Yesterday, I install MS Publisher 2007. My laptop periodically
does a virus scan. I understand your second paragraph now. Thanks again for
your suggestions.
