Opening read-only .mdb message after upgrade to Office XP Pro

Hi, I just upgraded from Office 97 to XP Office Pro on one
of my desktops. Tried opening a .mdb file from my Network
Place but error message: "You are trying to open a read-
only database...The database file's read-only attribute
may be set; clear this attribute". So using MS KB article
324666 and going to my main desktop (which I have NOT
loaded XP Office Pro yet but still at Access 97) and
looking at a .mdb file's properties, the read-only
attribute was already cleared! What should I should I do
now? (of course, I dont want to upgrade to Office XP Pro
on my desktop thinking I may lose the .mdb files
forever)... Thanks, Hal ([email protected])

i believe if you want to use Access XP connecting to
Access97, that may happen. you have to do the conversion
before you can update any data. Access 2000 is working ok
with Access XP

Hi May:
Thanks for your swift reply but a little confused still. You mentioned
to do the conversion but how I would this? Also, will this insure not
losing the 97 Access files?
Thanks/Hal
