Opening RTFD

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I wonder whether someone can help me.

When I attempt to use Word to open RTFD files, it would not do so directly but gave me a message to say that if I felt that the files were safe to open, I can open them just by using the Open command under the File menu. I tried that, but it wouldn't let me open the files (the files are all greyed out). Does that mean that Word doesn't open RTFD files?

Thanks!!!!

RTFD is a bit of a "menu", whether Word can open it depends on what is
written in it :)

In your case, it's probably got PDFs in it, and Word won't like that. Open
it in TextEdit and copy the text from there.

Cheers

John,
Thanks for the reply. There are no PDFs in it, to be honest. Just text.

Does that mean that there is something wrong with my Office installation?

Thanks!!

No, it doesn't.

It means there are some file formats Office can't open, and RTFD is one of
them. There may be exceptions that you can get to work, but generally, Word
can't handle it.

You can save RTFD out of TextEdit in a variety of formats that Word can open
(e.g. RTF!). Use one of those.

Cheers
