opening same template on network

ben

I am having trouble opening the same template on a
network. the template includes merged fields and the first
user seems to be alright, but when a second user merges
data into the same template, it let's you open the file as
read only, creates a new document with the merged fields,
but it's the contact data from user number one. Unless
user I closes the template, there was nothing i could find
to resolve this.

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben,

If you're really using a template (*.dot) file, then no user
should be *opening* it. They should be using File/new to
create a new, independent document from the template.

I think you'll find the problem will go away if you do this.

If not, please tell us which version of Word is involved, and
what the data source is.

My word version is 2000 and the datasource is Time and
Chaos. When there is a mailmerge from this program it
opens the template as well as a new document that has the
merged information inserted. Only if one closes the
template, the next person can use it to merge...
