Opening saved documents where I left off

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel When I open a previously saved Word document it always opens at the beginning of the document instead of where I left off. With lengthy documents it's a hassle to figure out where I was working last. I don't see anything in Preferences that allows me to change this. What I'm I missing?

YOU are not missing anything.

Microsoft managed to break the mechanism in the conversion to Word 2008.

Shift + F5 should get you there, but in Word 2008 it's broken.

Word stores the current and previous two cursor locations in the document
while you work. It is supposed to delete the oldest two and store the
current when you close.

Someone did not read the specification right and wrote the code to delete
them ALL. So there is no location saved.

I use a Macro that sets a bookmark at the cursor location on every save.
But in Word 2008 you can't do that because there are no macros.

The best you can do is manually set a bookmark, then use Command + g to go
to the bookmark when you re-open the document.

Sorry

So I guess Command-Option-z also won't work?? (I can't check because I
haven't "up"graded to Word 2008).
The best you can do is manually set a bookmark, then use Command + g to go
to the bookmark when you re-open the document.
Or key an unusual character such as Option-z just before you close and on
re-opening key Command-f => Option-z

No, it won't. The bookmark that writes is being stripped by the Save
process.

Cheers
