Opening & saving to folders. Pgm hangs. using word 2003 & XP.

Word was not responding last night when I closed system so I clicked on end
now.

Today I am unable to open folders in Word or save files. Can Open a
folder/file via Start and my documents.

can u help plse.

I had this problem yesterday. The only solution was to remove the security
update MS06-015. However, today the problem resurfaced and it was because the
noxious update was reinstalled last night so I again removed it with a good
result. My new question is why Microsoft would insatll a secons time an
update with which it was aware many people had problems.

If you have Automatic Updates configured to update automatically, then every
time it sees an update it doesn't have, it's going to install it. If you
configure it to work semi-automatically (prompt first), then you have the
opportunity to decline the update (once or forever). Keep in mind that,
despite the huge number of posts here about this problem, the vast majority
of users are *not* seeing it, and the update does provide additional
security.

I did follow the procedure recommended in the memo cited by Susan Barnhill to
fix the problem but it did not work. As a rsult I then removed the applicable
update as she also recommended to someone who earlier wrote about this
problem. SAo now i will have to try to reconfigure the automatic update.
