Opening Sharepoint Documents, Spreadsheets

I wasn't sure where to post this, becasue it involves the following software.
MS OFFICE 2003, SHAREPOINT SERVICES 2.0 on SBS 2003 and VISIO PRO 2007.

We recently installed VISIO PRO 2007 on a few machines that have OFFICE SBS
2003 installed on a SBS 2003 domain.

When clicking on documents in SHAREPOINT, an error message would open
reporting that an error occured and asking if I want to send a report to MS.
When reviewing the Event Viewer it reports that a an erroor occured with
OWSSUPP.DLL in relation to KERNEL32.DLL.

After a little research I found that after removing the OWSSUPP.DLL and
OWSCTL.DLL add-ins for IE7, the error disappeared and I could open a document
with no problems, but the prompt for opening the doc was not the original
prompt for Sharepoint, which used to state that opening the documents may be
harmful, and if you still want to open the document. And if you opened the
doc, the sharepoint web session would stay open.

Now it would state whether I wanted to OPEN, SAVE or CANCEL the document. If
I select either OPEN or SAVE it will open the doc, but the sharepoint session
would close.

And if I uninstalled VISIO, opening docs was not a problem, but I would
still get the latter prompt (OPEN,SAVE, CANCEL) and again he sharepoint
session would close.

Also in the case of uninstalling VISIO, the OWSSUPP.DLL and OWSCTL.DLL would
disappear from the add-ons for IE 7.

Essentially, I would like to have the VISO 2007 and OFFICE 2003 coexist, and
be able to open the docs without having the the sharepoint session close.

In order for this to happen I'm guessing the OWSSUPP.DLL and OWSCTL.DLL have
to be installed, but not affected by the VISIO 2007 install.

I am unsure how to get these sharepoint extensions re-installed after
installing VISIO, so that would be my question.

Thanks

Mick34,

I had the same problem but with Office 2003 and Access 2007. What I did to
fix the SharePoint extensions issue was simply go to Add Remove Programs and
highlight MS Access 2007 and clicked change. In the setup I chose add remove
features -> checked the box Choose advanced customization -> under Tools is
listed “Windows SharePoint Services Supportâ€. Click on that and choose “Not
Availableâ€. Do this for all Microsoft Office applications listed under add
remove programs. Then do the same thing to all of them except the Office
2007 application and add the “Windows SharePoint Services Support†back.
This worked for me.

Good luck.
