opening template changed

Out of the blue, whenever I open up Word, the formatting has changed. The
page has a color fill and the font changed. Nobody else uses my computer.
How did the formatting change, and how can I set my own standard formatting
when opening a new file?

I renamed the "normal.com" file, but Word keeps opening up a document that
looks like the old one.
So I deleted "normal.com" file, but Word keeps opening up a new document
still looking like the old one.

If you really renamed Normal.com, then you renamed the wrong thing. It's
Normal.dot you need to rename, and you need to be sure you've found the
right one.

Maybe I should ask this question first:
In Word 2003 what formatting should a blank document open with? I'm getting
white font on blue background, 12pt Times New Roman. I can't remember if
that is default.
Thanks.

The White text on a Blue background is a (sticky) setting under
Tools>Options>View. It is independent of the Normal.Dot Template (and I
guess I am not sure where that setting is stored). However, once you change
it, it will stay the way that you set it.

Otherwise 12pt Times New Roman is probably the default.

Oh for crying out loud...how did I miss that?
You're right, after unselecting the option "white text on blue" it saved it
as a default.
Sorry for wasting bandwidth.
Thanks for the help DOUG AND SUZANNE
