Additionally, if you happen to have iWork '08 installed, Pages can
open .docx files. You can then use them in Pages, or save as a .doc
file, and use them in Word 2004.

Additionally you can use docXconverter (http://www.panergy-
software.com/buy/download.html) or NeoOffice should be able to read it
as well. Also you can ask your client (PC user) to save the documents
in old file format.
