opening wks file

I ugraded my sisters computer which had works 2000 on it
to my old copy of Office xp quite some time ago. Now
when she tries to open a wks file it comes up aribic-
squares and stuff. She said that it used to work but
does not now. When I get there it is set up to open w
word. Is that what is supposed to open up a wks file? I
reinstalled office and no luck. I also changed what it
oopens with- wrd, excel. and I opend both progs up and
tried to "file-open" them -no luck. Now what? When I
reinstalled office I did a comoplete install. plz help

btw the files are charts if that makes any difference.
