Opening word 2002 causes system to hang and takes 100% cpu memory

On a PC with XP home and Office 2000 the Word application
will not open, hangs the PC with CPU activity at 100%

Excel will open but when trying to open a file hangs
system with 100% CPU activity. Powerpoint and Access are
fine!!

Have de-installed the Office software AND removed the
folders and re-installed the software in a different
location - same problem.

Have Trojan and virus checked system any suggestions
gratefully received

Thanks but in the end I had to fit a network card, update
XP Home delete all the Office applications and their
folders as well as deleting some of the keys in the
registry for Word. I then resintalled the application
after running anti virus softwareand the adsoft software
