opening word 2002 documents

i can't open a word 2002 document using word 2003. i receive a popup saying
"your trying to open a word document that was creating in an earlier version
of microsoft office. this file type is blocked by your registry setting
policy." how can i solve this issue?

I am having the same problem. I have another application which creates and
saves word documents. When I attempt to open them I get the same error
message. I do not know what version of Word the document is saved in but
Word 2003 will not open it. I am going to attempt to run setup again and see
if there is anything I can change that will allow me to open older version
documents.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922849/. For some warped reason
the article seems to assume that you _want_ to block these files and
tells you how to do that. To get rid of the blocking, reverse the
directions.
