Opening Word attachment crashes Outlook

Whenever I open a Word attachment in Outlook 2007, Outlook crashes. This does
not happen when opening a PDF, Excel, or a tif file attachment. Please advise.

have you tried Help, office diagnostics yet?

Many times. All diagnostics report no errors or necessary action.

does the crash report any errors? look in event viewer if it doesn't pop up
a dialog.

I'd start with disabling word add-ins - maybe rename the normal template.
