opening word doc

I have disabled my antivirus software, reinstalled Office 2003, vcreated a
document in word, as a test and still cannot open the document...it is
"Unavailable"...so aside from the work around with Anti Virus protection,
what else can I do? I retained Word 97, and can, goingthrough programs, open
older documents, but that is a pain...shouldn't Word 2003 converted those
files?

Help...am three days of this nightmare!

together, otherwise it is difficult to know what has been advised
previously.

Have you fully updated Office 2003 and Windows XP including all the patches
that were released last Tuesday?
