Opening Word Docs (Dialog Box Error)

I am using Word 2002 & WinXP (home edition). When I double-click on a Word
file to open it, an error box appears stating "The command cannot be
performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog
boxes to continue." Problem is, I have no other applications or windows
open. I can click the "OK" button, and the file will open after 15-20
seconds anyway. However, this is not only irritating but also time
consuming. I use Word all day, every day.

Can anyone help?? Thanks in advance.

When you open Word by itself, what occurs? Do you get a dialog?

Nothing unusual happens when I open Word directly - no error messages.
Also, I was mistaken, I have Word 2003.
