Opening word documents from Millenium (Microsoft works)

I have just purchased a new dell with XP professional, I have added my Office 2000 to it. However I cannot open any word documents from Microsoft Works/Works Word Processor that came with it and has Millenium program. What should I try doing. Thanks for any help.
