Opening Word Documents

Running Word 2000 on XP; after downloading updates, Word
won't open any documents; message "file not available."
Then it tries to save to "normal" file. Closes only after
several messages trying to save to "normal."

What happens if you rename all the files called "normal.dot" on your
computer?
