Opening Word Files in 2004

Previous version sof Word allowed a search of files on the computer by time
stamp words or other criteria. I don't see this feature in the 2004 edition,
has it been deleted?

Do it in the Finder (which is where you probably did it before too).
File/Find... in Panther. In Panther, add criteria as needed with the +
button.

PLEASE always state which version of Microsoft Office you are using -
**2004**, X or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions
otherwise.

Thank you for your response. I didn't realize the find in finder was capable
of that type of search.
My Word version is 204 for MAC using Panther. The previous version I
mention was in Office X. When you choose to open a file within Word an
option was available that allowed you to search for a file using selectd
criteria. This dialogue box was to the right of the dialogue box where you
would choose for instance "origional" or "copy". I suppose this was a type of
"finder" builtinto Word.
But, thanks for you answer it works perfectly.

there did use to be a find file command in Word up to word 6.0.1.a what it would do,
the first time it was choosen it would scan the Hard drive for any and all word
documents and create a database with an outline type system that you could then
choose desired file by typing in name and it would burrow down farther and Farther
until it located the desired file. Ocasionally the database would get wonky and
you'd have to rebuild it. usually twice a month. This handy feature was history in
Office2001 and has never returned. I guess because it was difficult to retain the
inegrety of the datatbase. They just decided it was worth the effort to fix it.

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!
