Opening Word or Excel files from Entourage

I'm running Microsoft:mac 2008 on my MacBook Air.
When I try to open a Word or Excel file attache to an email in
Entourage I get the following error:

"The application Microsoft word quit unexpectedly.

Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.

Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see
more details or send a report to Apple"

Then I can Ignore / Report / or Relaunch.

The problem is that from this point I can Ignore or Report, but not
Relaunch. Also, I cannot open Word or Excel from this point without
restarting the computer or using Disk Utility to Repair Disk
Permission.

Any ideas? It seems more like a MSFT problem than an Apple problem

Without knowing your exact update level of both Office & OS X it's hard to
suggest where to begin. Supply that information in any request.
Additionally, is there any problem with either porgram if launched by any
means *other* than by the manner you describe? How about an accurate
inclusion of the "more details" offered in the error message?
