opening .xls files

E

Ed

I am running Office 97 pro (sr2) and Windows 2000
professional (sp3).
when I go to documents from the start bar and click on a
excel spreadsheet (.xls) or when I double click that file
name in explorer, it always opens the file, then comes up
with an annoying pop up that says it cant open a file that
is already open. I don't get the problem if I start the
program first then open the file from within excel.
How can I stop it from trying to open the file twice and
get rid of that pop up when I try to open the file by
double clicking the file name in explorer or clicking on
it from "documents" in the start bar???
Thanks

Hi Ed,

The problem lies in the file association. To recreate it go to
Start/Run and run the following:

excel /regserver

Note the space before the forward slash.
