OpenOffice.org

O

Octavio

Today my Java download included a download of OpenOffice.org.

I have an icon now on my Microsoft icon on the lower left hand side of my
desktop that says Get OpenOffice.org. When I hit it, I get a Java window
that says in one dark blue push buttom there to "Download OpenOffice.org for
free". I wonder why I do still have to download it, I thought that I
already downloaded it when I updated my Java this morning. Or I did not?
This is an additional and separate download from my Java update of this
morning? Please advise.

Also, that window referenced above says that OpenOffice is a Microsoft
Office suite compatible with Microsoft Office Suite. I do have Office
Professional 2003 already, and I am pleased with it. So let me ask, why I
do need Open Office too? Any advantage to have this OpenOffice program too
as an additional word processor program and go thru the hassles of learning
how it works? Please advise also to this question.

Thanks in advance.

If is a separate promotional thing not part of JAVA. Promotional things are
often included with updates and free programs from some companies. In this
case you only got a link. Sometimes, if you do not read carefully and
uncheck unwanted boxes you receive downloads of unwanted programs or
toolbars.

In this case, if you do not want the Open Office Programs, just delete the
link from your desktop.

Well its got nothing to do with MS Office, the group you posted to.
There was an option in the java update to exclude the OpenOffice link
You might refer to Sun site for further info

It doesnt say it is an MS suite, it states it is compatible with MS Office.
