"operation failed" msg entering phone numbers in contacts

I get an "operation failed" message while trying to enter a phone number in a
new contact entry - Outlook. The phone number gets saved however will not let
me edit the number like the address (prompts for various fields)...

This worked fine till I loaded one of the security updated to office 2000..
