Optimal page length and pags open?

Will onenote run better if I keep my pages shorter? Sometimes when my page
starts to get long it gets a bit slow/jumpy. Is there a way to improve this?

Also, does having a lot of sections and books open slow onenote? Should I
close them if I am not really using them at the moment?

Will shorter pages give better perf: well, the answer at extreme sizes is
yes. If you were to put the entire text of a book (Pride and Prejudice, for
instance) onto one page, perf would be poor. Breaking it out a chapter per
page results in much better perf with today's machines.

And it's probably better to leave notebooks open. The only performance cost
I can imagine for having them open is search indexing running when the
machine is idle. Pictures and audio get scanned for text. If you close the
notebooks, that indexing operation may never happen.

Still, if you want to close notebooks, you may want to use the Favorites

It will help keep track of all the notebooks you have used.
