I have an interesting problem and am speculating on part of the issue. I am
hoping someone might confirm some of my suspicions.
I have setup a bridge firewall with a wi fi router/bridge on one side that
traverses thru a bridge firewall to an AD domain on the other side(all on
the same broadcast domain). I have opened up upd 67 & 68 and am using an ad
dhcp service. I believe this is working fine. The issue I have is that my wi
fi win2k pro domain client (my laptop)hangs on start up at "applying network
settings" . I am speculating that option 81 (I believe its 81, where the
client returns it host name to DNS to update it) may be the root of this
issue.My clients are configured to update DNS. I guess my question is " If
clients are configured as such and do receive there ip configs will win2k
hang "on start up" if it is unable to update it's DNS record?
I can pop out the wi fi when it hangs, the system will load and then I can
pop it back in and all is fine or I can open up all of udp on the
bridgewall. Both work around work currently.
